Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center (VMASC) of Old Dominion University is pleased to announce that it will host the first ODU Game Development Summer Camp from June 22 to June 26, 2009.  Participants will learn how to make computer games in an easy and enjoyable way.  Participants will develop action games with Game Maker, which is an intuitive game development tool.  They will also learn simple 3D modeling.  Although no prior programming experience is required, participants should be able to use computer fluently for common operations, such as running a program, using different menus of the program (e.g., Internet Browser), and locating a file in a file folder.  Microsoft Windows will be used as the platform to run Game Maker and to develop the games.  Skills for professional game developers and commercial game consoles such as Xbox 360 will also be introduced.  The camp consists of interactive lectures and hands-on exercises as well as a game play session each day during which participants can play the latest education and simulation games on Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 3. The preferred age group is 15 – 18, but younger children with excellent academic records are also accepted.
