Land-Side Straddle Carrier Container Handling

A straddle is a type of carrier that will drive over a container sitting on the ground, pick it up and move it to another area in the yard. The straddle carrier operator can raise the container high above the ground so it can drive over a stack of containers and deposit the container it is carrying on top of the stack. Typically, the higher stacking possible in a particular port depends on the stacking capacity of the straddles used in the port. The illustration shows a straddle carrier with a container.
