Port Overview

Support for the Berthed Ship

Once a ship is tied up, a ship's agent boards the ship and acts as the host while the ship is in port. The agent will arrange for a wide range of support including:

> Ship's services like water, electricity, and waste removal
> Transportation for the crew
> Doctor's appointments for the crew
> Food and supply deliveries

Resources are assigned to the ship to offload the cargo. This is a critically important negotiation: the captain wants as many cranes and people as possible moving the cargo so that the ship can get going quickly; the ship's agent is balancing all the needs and resources of the port.

Resources assigned to offload and load cargo:

> Cranes
> Work crews (called "gangs")
> Other special equipment as needed
