Crane Operation
A crane operator is assigned to a crane and is given a paper or electronic map that contains the ship container layout, and the specific containers that must be off-loaded. The map specifies the row and column, as well as the depth and number of containers that are to be removed. Sometimes the crane operator will need to shuffle containers aboard ship in order to reach a deeply stored container for offload, but this is rare. The crane operator will also have access to a list of containers that are to be loaded onto the ship, along with the desired location for these containers indicated on the map. Container placement is carefully planned to facilitate easy access when it is time to remove the container at its destination.
